Angels: Act Two
from here
Yokohama.
Japan's biggest port city.
Hub of trade, export, and import.
Modern, classical, new and ancient. If a thing is new 'it was done first in Yokohama'.
It is late by the time the two bikes purr through the suburbs, heading for the heart of the financial district. Late, and the rain has stopped. The surfaces are slick with water, lights reflecting off anything and everything, a shifting kaleidoscope.
The buildings are an odd mix. Darkened office buildings, except for the odd window where a worker is up late into the night. Bars, restaurants, the odd shop, spill light and sound and smell out into the streets.
Eventually, Miho waves an arm, slows, and pulls over to the side of the road. She hops off, braces the bike, and smoothly uses her entire body-weight to lift it onto the stand. She pushes her visor up, and smiles.
"Well, this is it."
There are two buildings that stand out. One is rounded, almost like a tower, stabbing up into the night. Next to it, seperated by only a narrow alleyway, is a mirrored tower-block, curved frontage, glass elevators running up the outside of the building. It has an enourmous lobby, brightly lit, edged by small shops, and a few restaurants.
"That's the one we want," she says, pointing to the rounded building. "And this is the one I thought we could go across from."
She grins.
"Anyone for sushi?"

So she continues across, and kneels to check on the rope. It's firm, it won't be going anywhere.
She flashes them a quick wave, before ducking across the roof to check on the doors.

She sees to her own harness next, then attaches carabiners to each end of two shorter lengths of rope. She clips one of them to Alanna's harness and one to her own.
"Now clip the other end onto the line and if you get tired or lose your grip, you won't fall," she says, sitting herself on the edge of the building, to one side of the rope that extends across.
"With any luck."
no subject
Sitting down on the other side, she does as instructed and clips the carabiner to the line. She assumes Goldy wants her to go first.
"We can never, ever tell Adam about this, okay?"
There's a guilty look in her eyes as she wraps both hands around the rope.

When she's done reshouldering her pack, she clips her carabiner on as well.
"Now get your cute ass over the other side."

Once they're across, she looks over to Goldy. "Do you think we should leave this here?"
no subject
"No," is her curt reply as she slices through the line.
It falls away towards the other building and she restows the grapple.

As she fights to steady her breathing and regain her balance, Alanna shakes her head, determined not to think about that now.
"Now we go down?"
no subject
She retrieves the harness she hadn't used to cross, and steps into it, tugging it tight. Sets the ropes. Steps backwards to the edge of the roof, leans back, carefully.
"Okay, set. All go together, right?"
no subject
She goes through the same setup for herself and moves into position beside the little Asian. Once there, she pulls up the bottom of her mask and kisses the exposed bridge of Miho's nose.
no subject
"Together sounds grand. But I'm not kissing either of you first."
no subject
There's a wink for Miho.
"Do a little dance?"
no subject
"Make a little love. . ."
no subject
"Earth people are strange."
no subject
"Get down tonight."
And with that she hops back off the rig...
