Outside, by the lake

Miho is perched on a sun-warmed rock, working with files and cloths and emery powder on a blade. A small knife, this time. Very small. Very sharp. Completely deadly.

"Sword, knife, shuriken. Bare-handed. I can use a bow or a gun, but I'm not quite so good with those. Too impersonal."

"Oh, I see. I can use a sword, but prefer knives or my axe. And I'm a rather good shot, bow, crossbow, gun. Not longbow, though. It's too big for me."

She can pull one back, easily, but her overall lakc of heights makes it awkward.

"Axe?" That's one weapon Miho doesn't know. Oh, she could probably kill you with it, but not so easily. "I'd like to see that."

She nods. "Yes. I use a recurved bow. Shorter, but near as powerful."

Fiona pauses.

"How are you around magic?"

Miho raises an eyebrow.

"It doesn't bother me, if that's what you mean? I've learnt a little since I've been here."

"That's what I meant." She holds out her small hands, and then makes a twisting motion.

Her axe appears, the prettily patterned blade obviously sharp and well cared for.

Miho grins. That would be a useful trick to learn. . .

"Nice trick."

She grins back.

"Isn't it?"

"I suppose," a little wistfully, "that you couldn't teach me to do that?"

"Not unless you are secretly another half-sister of mine. Which, considering Dad, is not impossible..."

"I doubt it," with another of those bitter laughs. "I'm my father's daughter."

Simply,

"As am I. It's an abilty of my family, though I am mor skilled at it then most."

She nods. "Oh well. Worth a try!"

She grins, and then balances the axe in her hands.

"May I see?" Miho asks, extending a hand.

"Of course." She offers it to the girl, watching her with green eyes far, far older then her face.

Miho hefts the axe briefly, juggles it from side to side. Makes an experimental pass or two, and nods. "Feels good. I don't know much about axes, though."

"Nearly all of my brothers use swords, and are over six foot...I had to do something a little different."

Miho laughs at that, grinning again.

"Nice thought. Want to show me how you use it, some time?"

A formal bow.

"It would be my pleasure, Miho."

Grinning, Miho bows back, just as deep. "Honoured, then."

"Do you live here?"

"For now?" She ponders. "I suppose I do, yes."

"I'll probably catch you soon, then."

"I'd like that," she smiles.
